GCE A levels

The General Certificate of education (GCE) is one of the most recognized qualifications as secondary level education globally. GCE is run under and conducted by Cambridge International Education (CIE) board. It is a part of University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES) now known as Cambridge Assessment. GCE A-level, the advanced level General Certificate of Education, is usually studied over a two year period as Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level and Advance (A or A2) level. A Level is taught in 160 countries with a variety of 70 subjects divided as science and non-science. It is equivalent to the HSEB +2 and the two- year Intermediate level study in Nepal.

The syllabi and examination are set by the University of Cambridge and the papers are corrected in the UK by approved examiners. Students can appear in examination twice a year either in May/ June or in October/ November. Results are published, 6 to 7 weeks after the examination in the form of statement of result and certificates are normally made available after six weeks after the issue of result.  As per the Directory of Recognition and Equivalence of Educational Qualifications, grades A, B, C are recognized by TU as distinction, first division and second division respectively. Grades D and E are recognized as third division.

For meaningful A level studies, a student requires the application of critical and analytical skills along with self-discipline, self-motivation, and management skills. An A-Level student must be an independent learner as course demands, understanding and appreciating the principles and concepts. Rote learning and teacher dependency syndrome are highly discouraged, as they cannot address the A level study requirements.
